The European Union directive came into effect on December 2, 2010

On December 2, 2010 the European Union directive No. 995/2010 dated October 20, 2010 came into effect specifying the requirements directed to counterwork the trading of illegally harvested timber presented to wood products suppliers at EU market. The requirements of this directive will be applied to the full extent to wood suppliers from March 3, 2011. Detail rules related to the implementation of some important provisions of this directive should be developed not later than June 3, 2012.

The directive defines the obligations of those who supply wood and wood products to EU market and commercial agents as well. Directive requirements refer to a wide range of forest products from unprocessed wood and logs to sawn timber, paper, millwork, prefabricated buildings, chip fuel, blocks, pallets, etc.
